Research Interests - Developing and applying bioinformatics software and databases for biological data management, data integration and data mining
Biography
Dr. Mao's primary research interests focus on developing and applying bioinformatics software and databases for biological data management, data integration and data mining. Dr. Mao played a leading role in developing several databases, tools and web applications: 1) ESTAP: an EST analysis pipeline; 2) NodMutDB: a comprehensive database and a web interface for genes and mutants involved in symbiosis; 3) RhizobialesBRC: an integrated bioinformatics resource for rhizobia-legume symbiosis research; 4) TEfam: a relational database and a web interface for submission, retrieval, and analysis of transposable elements in mosquitoes. She also led the effort in our research group to search for novel genes in Sinorhizobium meliloti using the 454 pyrosequencing technology and to re-annotate Sinorhizobium meliloti genome using the PATRIC gene prediction pipeline and curation system. Currently, Dr. Mao is involved in the development of the PATRIC2/Portal project.
