Biography

Endang Purwantini is a senior research associate at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute. She has a pharmacy degree from School of Pharmacy at the Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia and earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Iowa in 1997.  She received her post-doctoral training in the laboratories of Dr. Lacy Daniels at the University of Iowa and Dr. Ralph S. Wolfe at the University of Illinois.  She was faculty a member at the School of Pharmacy at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia in 1985-2002 and served as Senior Research Scientist (Microbial Biochemistry) at the Inter University Center of the ITB in 1987-2002.  In 2002 she joined VBI.  Her research interests include molecular biology, microbial genetics, and enzymology of the mycobacteria; more specifically on coenzyme F420-dependent reactions.  She won the 1999 Toray Science and Technology Award in Indonesia from the Indonesia Toray Science Foundation.
