VBI officially opened a new office complex in the National Capital Region on September 28, 2006. The facility is located in Virginia Tech’s National Capital Region offices on Glebe Road, Arlington, Va. The opening of VBI’s offices in the greater Washington represents a key milestone in the development of the institute.

Through this initiative, VBI is forging closer links with federal agencies, researchers, foundations and business development partners and also providing space and resources for present and future faculty and staff to work in the greater Washington area.

Facility

VBI’s facility in the National Capital Region comprises offices for executive staff and faculty. It includes a state-of-the-art executive meeting space and an access node grid to enable group-to-group communications. This powerful suite of multimedia facilities is suitable for large-scale distributed meetings, collaborative workstations, seminars, lectures, tutorials and training. The facility provides state-of-the-art office space and resources for present and future faculty and staff to work in the greater Washington area.

Purpose

VBI’s offices in the Northern Capital region are the first step in a strategic move to build a larger presence in the greater Washington area. The offices and resources expand the research, development and outreach activities of the institute. They also ensure closer integration between the northern Virginia and Blacksburg resources of VBI.

VBI’s facility is a forward-looking resource that represents the next phase in the institute’s development plans and which opens up further opportunities for research, commercializing innovative discoveries and networking with partners.

Plans are in place for Virginia Tech and VBI to expand further their operations in the Washington area.
